Wrights vs. Curtiss
Glenn H. Curtiss was the chief rival to the Wright brothers and their creation. Curtiss strongly adhered to the traditional European way of aeronautic engineering, which contrasted greatly with the brother's new engineering. Europe's traditional studies used the automobile engine as basis for the airplane's. However, Wilbur and Orville discovered that flight came from the wings primarily then the engine for motion. When they filed patents for their warped wing glider, they were surprised that Curtiss and other airplane manufacturers began to adopt the technique. However, soon the brothers learned their patents were not being recognized and they sued for their rights. The Wright brother's practical intelligence introduced to the market a new and competitive airplane, but their business intelligence saved their life long work.
